Many times, when I walk, I get a blister on the entire pad of my 4th toe. Both feet. It doesn't seem to matter what I've done - it just happens. My 3rd toe takes over...and steps on the 4th toe or something. I'm not totally sure what's going on inside my shoe! But, I have tried Glide, mole skin, bandaids....I thought I tried it all.
Until - I found these SUPER cool shoes! They are called "Vibrams" or "Five Finger Shoes" I figured that it might be the perfect solution. These cool shoes keep your toes separated - much like a pair of gloves would do on your hands. They look CRAZY .. but, I figured I would give them a try!
After reading 34 reviews, all of which were 4 or 5 star, I went to REI and tried them on. They felt a little weird - but not too bad. The guy in the store did tell me that they took some getting used to. He said he could barely walk after the first time he ran in them. I asked him how far he went....thinking he was going to say 10 miles or something - but...his answer "about 1/4 of a mile!" Hmmm....
The first walk I did with them - was NO problem. I did feel a slight area that rubbed on my big toe - but it was totally tolerable. I did this walk 4 Miles - which I figured was a "light" walk...as a break in type, with no issues. They actually felt comfortable!
Day two of these shoes - I got a little more adventurous. My neighbor was dropping her vehicle off at a shop and was going to walk home. Knowing we needed to get in some longer training walks, I thought this was a great idea. Once again, I decided to give the shoes a try.
W W W W e l l l l. It all started fine. But, at about the 4 mile mark - I stopped and put some glide on my heels. I told Susan, that I must have "gotten to much dry skin off my heels" because they were starting to hurt. I figured the Glide would be a life saver.
About 1 1/2 miles from home, I stepped on a little rock. It hit on my heel - and I literally screamed. Susan and I were kind of surprised that a rock would hurt - since these shoes were supposed to be great for walking on rocks.
By the time we got home, I had probably mentioned that I could NOT scrubb the dry/dead skin off my heals any more....because they were really starting to hurt. Much to my surprise - when I got home and took of my "bat man shoes".... I just about CRIED.
This is not a picture of my chest.....it is the bottom of my feet! :-(
But....I now know, that my Team name "Blisters 4 Boobs" is so appropriate! I will say however; that I would do it again....if one person was spared going through breast cancer!!
